Mnt Goat (Dinar Guru) –\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>The value of any currency is all about having confidence and speculation that in HOLDING the currency it will provide more purchase power than any other readily available currency and so the citizens will prefer to use it instead.\u00a0Has the CBI done this? The answer is a BIG FAT NO!\u00a0\u00a0To help to ultimately raise the value of the dinar in the long run is first to get the economy off the US dollars.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0One measure the CBI claims recently taken was to lower the rate of the dinar making it more expensive for the banks to purchase US dollars in the auctions. Will this help?\u00a0\u00a0My opinion is that this measure alone WILL NOT help much because as long as you have the DEMAND for the dollar the banks will pursue them…Supply and Demand rules over the value of something.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 [post 1 of 3….stay tuned]

A devaluation is counterproductive to this.\u00a0Not to mention Ali al-Allaq made at least 3 appearances in the media stating the CBI has no intent to devalue the dinar<\/span>.<\/strong>\u00a0If this becomes a clear lie, it would hurt his credibility and the CBI’s monetary policy credibility…Further harming the banking system.\u00a0 I don’t buy it all…I would tend to think this kind of article comes from those who don’t want to see the CBI succeed and want to further damage Iraq’s economy.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Time will tell.\u00a0\u00a0 [post 2 of 2]

Kaperoni (Dinar Guru) –\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Article:\u00a0 “Parliament calls for reducing the financial value of the dinar against the dollar, rather than external borrowing<\/em>”\u00a0 This is the same old story from a few months back, calling for the CBI to devalue the dinar to 1400 to save money on the budget rather than borrow from the IMF and WB (and the subsequent conditions) to fund the budget. The one caviot here is they claim\u00a0they have sources in the CBI that are in agreement and planning to devalue the dinar.\u00a0\u00a0That being said…in the short term, a devaluation would save them some money. The problem is though that it would also destroy citizen confidence in the dinar<\/span>, many would dump the dinar for dollars and further putting strain on the CBI’s reserves.\u00a0A devaluation also completely goes against the principles the CBI and government are trying to acheive to create a market economy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0[post 1 of 2….stay tuned]
