BGG – I believe so many in this community have read this latest uprising in Iraq all wrong (as usual). The Sadrists ran on a platform of equal governance and reform. In stunning fashion, they won big. Not quite big enough… but big. The people voted for a new direction. They will again.

The corrupt old guard has been doing everything possible to try and maintain their “status quo”. This is at the very heart of this conflict. This is a good struggle. Freedom can be a messy business…

Hard news excerpts:

“Sadr believes he can control the angry masses …but only if he can control the system. His unleashing of the Sadrists for 24 hours was that message in graphic form.”

How to deal with Muqtada al-Sadr has long befuddled Western and Iranian officials. The latest outburst of violence in Iraq shows they have long underestimated him as well, writes @SajadJiyad…

You want to know what this all means? Sadr sent the message “reform or else”… I believe it was heard loud and clear.
